CARIOCA - Free Jazz Leadsheet

“carioca” was written in 1933 by Vincent Youmans with lyrics by Edward Eliscu and Gus Kahn for the film *Flying Down to Rio*. The first recording was made for the film’s soundtrack and introduced the song to audiences through elaborate dance sequences.

Later versions by dance bands and jazz orchestras helped keep the tune active in the 1930s repertoire. Its lyrics celebrate Brazilian rhythm and dance, while the music features syncopated Latin-influenced patterns and a strong AABA form that offers lively material for both vocal renditions and instrumental arrangements.
