TUXEDO JUNCTION - Free Jazz Leadsheet
“tuxedo junction” is a swing-era jazz standard composed in 1939 by Erskine Hawkins, Bill Johnson, and Julian Dash. Originally an instrumental for the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra, it became widely known after Glenn Miller’s 1940 recording, which reached number one on the charts. The tune takes its name from a popular swing dance spot in Birmingham, Alabama.
The melody is smooth and memorable, combining blues-inflected riffs with a driving swing rhythm, making it ideal for big-band arrangements. It has remained a favorite among swing bands and jazz orchestras, highlighting the rhythmic interplay between horns and rhythm section while allowing room for improvisation.
