TEMPTATION RAG - Free Jazz Leadsheet
"Temptation Rag" was composed by Henry Lodge and published in 1909. The first known commercial recording was made in 1919 by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band in New York, marking the tune’s transition from ragtime parlor piece to early jazz repertoire.
The piece has since appeared in performances by ragtime pianists, traditional jazz ensembles, and revival bands emphasizing classic American syncopated music. Entirely instrumental, it showcases a lively ragtime structure with multiple contrasting strains and brisk, syncopated melodies. Its energetic charm and crisp stride-style patterns continue to make it a favorite among ragtime performers.
