TAMPEEKOE - Free Jazz Leadsheet

"Tampeekoe" is a novelty jazz tune composed by Jimmie Lunceford and recorded by Jimmie Lunceford and His Orchestra on December 14, 1934, in New York City. The piece emerged during the orchestra's rise as one of the most polished and inventive swing bands of the period.

Although not as widely revived as some of Lunceford’s major hits, the tune appears in historical anthologies of the band’s early years. Largely instrumental, it features rhythmic interplay, witty phrasing, and sectional call-and-response writing that were hallmarks of Lunceford’s ensemble. Its structure, built around a lively dance-band arrangement, highlights precise ensemble articulation and playful melodic turns.
