CANDY - Free Jazz Leadsheet

“candy” was written in 1944 by Alex Kramer, Joan Whitney, and Mack David. The first major commercial recording appeared the same year by Johnny Mercer with Jo Stafford and the Pied Pipers, whose version quickly became a hit during the final years of the swing era.

The tune has since been recorded by numerous vocalists and jazz ensembles. Its lyrics use light, affectionate metaphors, and the melody follows a smooth, mid-tempo swing line that makes it ideal for intimate vocal phrasing as well as relaxed small-group improvisation.
