BLUE AGAIN - Free Jazz Leadsheet

"blue again" (also published under the full title "Blue Again") was composed by Jimmy McHugh (1894‑1969) and Dorothy Fields (1904‑1974) in 1930. The first known recording was performed by Milt Shaw & His Detroiters in the same year, capturing the early dance-band style.

Over subsequent decades, the tune was revived by vocalists and small-group jazz ensembles, appreciated for its graceful melody and lyrical swing feel.

The lyrics express gentle wistfulness and quiet longing. Musically, the composition is structured in a relaxed swing tempo with a clear melodic line and space for instrumental soloing, making it adaptable for both dancing and attentive listening.
