THE PREACHER - Free Jazz Leadsheet

"The Preacher" was composed by Horace Silver and first recorded on February 6, 1955, in Hackensack, New Jersey, by the Horace Silver Quintet with Hank Mobley and Kenny Clarke. The tune quickly became one of Silver’s signature works in the emerging hard-bop movement.

Its gospel-influenced melody and relaxed, blues-based form have made it a favorite among small jazz groups. The piece often features call-and-response phrasing and soulful voicings that highlight Silver’s blend of church music and bebop.
