MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE - Free Jazz Leadsheet

“My One and Only Love” was composed by Guy Wood with lyrics by Robert Mellin and first published in 1952 (originally under the title “Music from Beyond the Moon”). Mellin rewrote the lyrics in 1952, and in 1953 the song was republished under its familiar title. Its enduring melody and romantic lyricism have made it a beloved jazz standard.

The most famous early recording of the song was made by Frank Sinatra on May 2, 1953, with Nelson Riddle’s orchestra. Over the years, other iconic versions followed — most notably the 1963 recording by John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, which cemented the song’s place in the jazz canon. The lyrical content expresses profound, devoted love, and musically it follows a traditional 32-bar AABA form, with a soaring, operatic-quality melody that invites expressive improvisation.
